The Need
In 1997 the currency crisis that swept through
parts of Asia started a domino effect that brought
almost total collapse to Indonesia's economic,
social and political structure. Since then, severe
economic hardship has continued to plague
increasing number of Indonesians.
The Response
Indonesian Relief Fund was founded in response to
this dire need. IRF's goal is to help alleviate the
suffering of the country's poor and needy by
implementing projects and programs that fall into
these FIVE PILLARS:
1. Feeding program
2. Food security
3. Education
4. Health care
5. Job creation
A Few Facts On Indonesia
Strung across the equator between continental Asia
and Australia, it is the largest southeast Asian
country, made up of an archipelago of over 17,000
islands.
With over 220 million people, it is the fourth most
populous nation in the world (after China, India
and the United States). Jakarta (on the northwest
coast of Java) is its largest city with a
population of over 9 million people.
With 88% of the population professing to be
followers of Islam, it has the largest Muslim
population of any country in the world.
The mid 1997 economic crisis triggered shockwaves
that changed the country's political, economic,
religious and social structures. The poverty rate
has increased dramatically: the poor in urban areas
doubled, while those in rural areas increased by
75%. Widespread malnutrition, unemployment and
children dropping out of schools are just some of
the fallouts
History
A group of Indonesian Christian businessmen and
professionals in Southern California and myself
founded IRF as an action to the burden that God has
placed upon us to help our fellow Indonesians.
One Person exemplified and modeled this compassion
in action - it is Jesus Himself. He readily
ministered to the felt needs of those who came to
Him. As He did so, He also used the opportunity to
show them God's forgiveness and love. It is the
goal of IRF not only to provide the much-needed
food and medicine, but also to share the Gospel of
Jesus Christ to the people of Indonesia, which is
also the country with the largest muslim population
in the world. But IRF needs the Body of Christ to
release her resources.
How can you be involved? Aside from financial
donation, you can also help us to recruit manpower,
supplies and transportation, as well as to
facilitate networking in diplomatic services,
governmental ministries, transporters and warehouse
services/facilities. But above all, you can help to
pray and interced for Indonesia.
The door to impact Indonesia with the Gospel is
wide open. Will the body of Christ respond to this
need? I pray that we will unite our hearts and
hands for this purpose.
For the harvest,
