Earthquake in Padang & Bengkulu

Powerful earthquake struck Padang, Indonesia on September 30, 2009

OBI's medical team had arrived in the morning of Oct 1, along with another team arriving in the evening. We have a total of 3 teams.Thank you for MAF who dedicated 1 small plane for transportation of our team. This has made our team and our logistics faster. There are now 3 teams there. 1 team serving Pariaman, 1 team serving Pecinan area in Padang, and another team serving patients in our Posko.

My highest appreciation to IRF, your donation enable OBI to maximize our medical services in all these area. Tonight we will be sending more medical supplies for our surgery team in the hospital. Two ambulances were sent to help our mobile medical clinic.

Also, we were able to distribute bread (chocolate bread, bread and jelly), as well as survival boxes (rice, canned food, biscuit and water). One of these survival boxes allows a family of 5 to survive for 3 days. At each box costing at about Rp. 100,000.- ( US$ 10.00), we are currently preparing for a total of 5000 boxes. The needs are huge.

Shelter Kits, which cost at $35 per kit, were also prepared to help a family of 5 or 6 to stay covered at night from the rain. Each shelter kit consist of 1 piece of tent material, strings to secure 4x6 (13 feet x 20 feet), plastic for the ground cover 2x3 (7 feet x 10 feet), 1 rolled mattress and 2 blankets, candles for light and match boxes.
